Clay,

Then you might want to use inclusive stream marking as opposed to noinclusive stream marking. Inclusive stream marking will include the character the curor is on in the block and will thus allow block operations to function. I have assigned the Alt+< and Alt+> to allow starting noinclusive and inclusive stream blocks in my command map. The commands are as shown below as well as the command for line and column marking that I have assigned.
