Thanks, Dan, for looking into this.
Thanks, deleyd, for your repsonse. I agree with you and disagree with Dan that checking CR/LF at EOF is a workaround. On the contrary, this plus the file not ending with CR/LF is what makes this bug happen!
Dan seems to think this is a minor issue, and I’m also unsure about this. This bug wouldn’t matter if every file I edited had been created and modified only with ME, and I never changed the CR/LF at EOF flag, or I never added a line to the end of a file. But otherwise it can easily happen.
And it has. I’ve been bitten by this bug quite a few times. The most recent was when I added a line to the bottom of an .htaccess file for my site. ME said on screen that I had four lines in the file, when in reality there were only three. The result was that an important section of my site was down for a week before a user finally let me know. I decided then that I should investigate the bug thoroughly and report it.
Thanks for your reply. Just after I posted my question, I searched the web and found the same thing. It is actually a lot more efficient to search the web than to search ME HTML help.

Thanks for your detailed suggestion. It worked. I uninstalled 9.10, deleted the 9.10 folder, and reinstalled 9.10 the same way, except I did not copy settings from 8.0. Now 9.10 and its help and other features come up normally.
The only drawback so far is that 9.10 does not use my 8.0 session settings. But I learned long ago that sessions settings are too easily lost to be dependable. So in the important folders I have edit.lst files, each of which contains a list of the files I usually edit in that folder.
Thanks for your reply.
>You have to create a project before you can access it via project manager. To do so, open Project | Create Project… from the main menu <
The _main_ menu? Do you mean the menu under Project Manager? I can’t open Project Manager – that’s the whole problem.
>Current versions of Multi-Edit will create a session with the same name as the project for you <
Great. But I don’t see how to create or access a project…
> if you’ve got Synchronize Projects to Sessions checked on the project customization dialog, <
You mean Tools | Customize | Projects? There’s a Synchronize Projects to Sessions checkbox there, but the problem with accessing Project Manager is the same whether this box is checked or not.
>If not, merely create the session first.<
I already have a session for the folder I’m working in. I have Tools | Customize | Sessions | Restore status method set to Encoded status files for each dir.
Could the problem be that since a there is already a session, ME can’t create a project?
I’m still pretty stuck. TIA if you can help me further.
Thanks for your reply.
I don’t have any .PRJ file at the top of my web site or anywhere else on my system. I don’t know anything about .PRJ files, and the help doesn’t inform me anything about them other than the fact that they are involved with Project Manager.
There are no sample .PRJ files in the ME 8 distribution.
There is no Project.s in the Src folder.
There are no files in the Src folder that contain the word “project”.
I can’t use Project Manager to create a new project or do anything else because I get the error “Project file is invalid” whenever I try to open Project Manager. This is true no matter what ME session I’m in.
I don’t see any “View | System” option. I don’t see a View menu at all. If you’re referring to View under Project Manager, I can’t get to it because I can’t start Project Manager.
I’m pretty stuck. TIA if you can shed any light on the situation.
